Palm Sunday

YUM!

This year, as usual, we shared the Palm Sunday service at Lanercost Priory with the congregations from across the benefce. The walkers of the Northern Cross  were there having spent the second night of their pilgrimage in the Dacre Hall.

Members of the Gilsland congregation walked with them to Gilsland along the Hadrian’s Wall Footpath , sharing the task of carrying the cross.

Tea/lunch at Gilsland Village Hall was as delicious as ever - all home made by the parishioners and served with a smile - despite  what the photos show!

Next stop for the pilgrims - Haltwhistle. Next stop for the rest of us - the kitchen sink!

The cross arrives at Gilsland Village Hall

Sue and Sue ladling the well earned soup - yes it rained and blew most of the day!

After an informal act of worship the pilgrims take up the cross and head across the hills for Haltwhistle and a well earned shower at the fire station. - Our own Steve does his bit!

The Pilgrims walk throughout Holy Week wading across to  Holy Island on Good Friday morning.

This year they braved several days of snow and high winds. A real challenge.
